The begin & saluti

Title : The begin -- Author, arrangements & performance : Fabio Ranghiero Type of file : mp3 -- size : 1966 kb

Tomorrow I will go on vacation. I have applied myself to some “extra” projects recently, that means that I’ ve not worked at my blog. But I didn’t want to leave home without playing some notes. Here is a brief composition recorded in half an hour. You can take the opportunity to something more intense, thanks to the Creative Commons at usual. Goodbye for now!

And the winner is........

The musical blog! No, non ho vinto nulla ... magari.

The musical blog! No, I’ve not won anything! Two weeks ago there was an advertising experiment linked to this blog. It was a proof of orientation not so expensive. With 15 euro I have bought 100 000 apparitions in some sites (about 2000 per day). The result was not so enthusiastic. On 100000 apparitions of the great banner represented above, only sixty click and no comparison. I must make some comments:
-what shall I do with that banner on internet?
- for a music site it’s better to guide not to publish carelessly the banner.

At last, if you want to comfort me, please do it, this is the time!

I want to report a blog called Gremus, in which you can find expert comments and news (that can be shared) about the world of music. Here is a sentence coming from one of their post that has drawn my attention and has convinced me to “support” them and they become part of my favourite links:

“The industrial record companies, the coordinating centres, the trade unions and associations concerning the music have lost their credibility because they are only acting in their interest. They slam the door in the faces of hundreds new artists, they show little interest in the Italian orchestral musicians and making the Siae their wonderland... ”

In a few worlds I want to tell you what I’m thinking about the Italian present situation. Someone could tell that “this is the time to wake up”. The sad thing is that many people has just woken up...the only concrete thing that could be done seems to be to bypassing the system, rather than changing the things.
Bruno Italiano, Rosangela Bonardi e Stefano Italiano are the creators of that site. If only there would be people like them!

Noodle - part 3

Maybe you have clearer ideas! We talk about a revolution, as I wrote before. Noodle is the first great step to a new way of MAKE music and LIVE it, without leaving nothing at the calm listening of a song. With such programmes the listeners can talk with the author himself. They can also exchange their own saves with others and find new ways to make the loops interactive. That's a great stimulus for the musicians, no doubt! Obviously there's something wrong. For example, as a musician I feel that the program need a special editor to create tracks of Noodle. Well it's true that this is the beginning of this adventure. Noodle's authors are currently testing the program. I think it's unnecessary to give the artist an instrument that could not well function in a month. I made a question to Noodle's authors on that matter and they answered me that, as soon as the program will be completed, they will give the version of the program for musicians (but I really don't know if it is free or not).
I want to talk about another serious thing, that is the lack of support by the music stars, who can already create new tracks. Where are they? Do they know the resources of Noodle? Are they thinking about it? Peter Gabriel gave three tracks, the Afrocelts two (people enjoy listening their songs, more than others). Does the world of music want to enter a new era or just earn money thanks to the royalties? I know that I'm a bit polemic but I expected a little bit support. Five tracks a year are two little! That's not all! Why do they not translate the site into different languages, for example into French, or Spanish and why not, into Italian? And also, why do they not advertise the program by publishing free tracks in CD you can find in the shops?
I hope that the answer is not because 'they earn nothing'. I think that this is not the problem because it's obvious that in the beginning they cannot earn money for such plans. There's even more to do, as you can imagine.
In short, the developments of this new program could be very interesting. The authors could create free and not free tracks for novice musicians. That is something different from piracy, isn't it? You can exchange your interpretations of the same track, instead of simply exchanging the copies of tracks. That's more cultural!

Well, I hope to have roused your curiosity. The best way to approach Noodle is to play with it. The program is free, one track is free, just enter the site. Now I want to cite all the authors. They are people who wants to make something new in the musical world. I wish that in the future even more persons will be interested in this new way to play with the music called Noodle!

Pronti a partire?
Provate a scaricare il video di "burn you up burn you down" ( di Peter Gabriel, uno dei primi musicisti a credere in Noodle).

This is the interface. At the first sight it seems like something "out of this world". But it's amazingly essential and functional. Let's imagine that the circle is the stage in which you can play the track as you like. Each icon on the right and/or on the left represents a musician you can use to play. Each musician can play different scores or better a sequence of loops you have assigned. Ready to start? Ok, first you must position the icon/musician on the stage to make him play (you can put up the volume of the instruments by reaching the centre of the stage). If you click on the mouse on the right, you can select the scores. Now you can play a guitar, or a piano, and a voice repeating a "loop" of 4, 8, 12 or 16 beats. Well done! Now you can put nearer other icons, or assign other loops or find what happened on the video, but above all you can listen. Every time you want, you can add or remove the icons, change the loop and play the song as you like. In this way the track that you have bought is no more fixed but malleable, according to your preferences. The yellow capsules save the definite configurations. In this way you can reach a further step by working out the "musical cells" created by the author and editing his song as you like. It takes five minutes, maybe half an hour or even few seconds!
The most important thing is that you can interact with the author. That's fascinating! You can enjoy his song and I'm sure he will be curious about how you play with his music.
